Strawberry Baby Food Recipes

Strawberry is perhaps the most famous among the nutritious berry fruits.

Blueberries top the scale for health benefits but the popularity of strawberries soars way above all other berries.

Strawberries have a distinctive shape, are bright red in color and have small seeds on their skin.

Strawberries are also known for their sweetness and fragrance which is why some perfume factories use this fruit for their smell.

We are going to share with you today some delectable strawberry baby recipes we are certain you will enjoy.

But first, we’ll share some informative facts about this nutritious, beautiful fruit.

Strawberry Facts

Strawberry Facts

Strawberries, like pears, belong to the Rosaceae family. Some people think of it is as a huge edible flower. It is thought that strawberries originally came from ancient Rome.

The wild strawberries eaten by Romans are known to be smaller than the modern strawberry and with a thicker skin. Wild berries also tasted less delicious.

Today, this popular berry is being cultivated globally.

Strawberries are high in fiber, folic acid potassium, Vitamin B, C and K but low in fat. They also contain phenols, copper and manganese.

Important Note: There are studies claiming that eight strawberries give your body a real boost against cardiovascular diseases and can reduce the risk of stroke and inflammation. They also contain plentiful amounts of vitamin C.

Strawberries are high in antioxidants and are highly beneficial for good eye health.

Choosing and Storing Strawberries

Choosing Strawberries

When choosing strawberries, pick ones that are bright red in color. Green and not-so-red berries are sour.

Unlike other fruits, strawberries stay as they are when picked so if they were unripe in picking they will proceed to rot in a few days and won’t ripen anymore.

Strawberries with their stem still intact retain freshness. Smaller berries are generally sweeter and juicier than the bigger ones. The stronger the fragrance of the strawberry, the sweeter they are.

If you bought unripe strawberries, storing them inside a refrigerator won’t help ripen them for, as we said above, they tend to rot afterwards.

Choosing and Storing Strawberries

Refrigerating helps with their general freshness.

Be sure to eat the fruits in two to three days maximum. They will start to spoil after that period.

Freezing strawberries will help keep the berries fresh for as long as six months.

Rub lemon on the fruits to retain their bright red color even when frozen.

Why Are Strawberries Considered Healthier than Canned Ones?

Strawberries Considered Healthier than Canned Ones

Fresh strawberries, especially organic ones, give far superior health benefits for your baby than the canned version.

Canned fruits, as we always mention in this series of baby food recipes, contain preservatives that are not suitable (and even potentially harmful) for you and your baby’s body.
